Is your wig too thick and heavy?

A lot of women are dealing with this issue. In fact, it's one of the most common complaints I hear from new wig wearers. I hear clients say their wig looks like a helmet or not natural and then they end up not wanting to wear their wig.  I have good news, there is a solution! You can get your wig thinned out to make it thinner, more natural and easier to manage.

There are two options for this problem: You can try doing this yourself at home or you can have a licensed stylist/wig specialist do it for you. If you don’t feel comfortable thinning your wig yourself, then I recommend taking your new wig to a professional to avoid any disasters!

But if you do decide to thin out your wig yourself, here are a few tips that will help you in the process.

What You Will Need:

  1. Thinning Shears
  2. Hair Clips
  3. Comb

Steps For Thinning Out Your Wig:

Thinning Scissors:

  1. Pull up the Top layer of hair and clip
  2. Determine where the bulk is.
  3. Take a section and get as close to the base of the hair, cut and pull out
  4. Comb to remove the cut hair and move to another section.
  5. Repeat this step as needed throughout the wig.
  6. Periodically stop and review what you have done to ensure you are not cutting too much.

Thinning Comb: (Optional for longer hair)

Thinning Comb****Make Sure to use a New Blade!***

  1. Pull up the Top layer of hair and clip
  2. Determine where the bulk is
  3. Take a section and comb to hold the section of hair tight and then slide your thinning comb down at a 45-degree angle to remove some of the bulk.
  4. Comb to remove the cut hair and move to another section.
  5. Repeat this step as needed throughout the wig.
  6. Periodically stop and review what you have done to ensure you are not cutting too much,

There are many ways to make a wig look more natural and less bulky. Whether you want something trimmed or thinned out completely, this opportunity will give you an end result of less bulkiness while still maintaining your base style.
