Curly hair is beautiful but can be a challenge to manage. If you are new to wigs or already wear synthetic wigs, then you know, synthetic wigs require special attention, even more so for curly hair. That’s why I want to share these important tips so you can maintain your curly wig style. Every lady wants to achieve bouncy, frizz-free curls that stay put all day long. So, let’s dive in!
MY TOP 3 TIPS FOR CURLY HAIR
I.) Be gentle when styling your curly wigs
Why: Curly synthetic wigs are prone to tangling, so if you don’t handle them correctly you can cause damage to the fibers, stretch the material, and actually shorten the lifespan of your wig. And no one wants their wig looking like a mess rather than an actual style, Right?
Avoid over-brushing, because too much brushing can cause frizz and disrupt the curls' pattern. I like to use my fingers or a wide-tooth comb/ pick. This will help to not stretch the fiber, which can lead to frizz and breakage.
II.) Cleanse and keep your wig hydrated with a detangler-conditioning spray
All wigs need to be washed & conditioned at some point. This will keep your fiber smelling fresh, bouncy, and ready to wear. Of course, curls are prettier when they look fresh and healthy and not dry or frizzy. So, always condition and spritz the ends with a detangler to reduce frizz and help maintain the natural curl pattern.
III.) Do not use hot tools to style or repair the fiber
Heat styling tools, like flat irons and curling irons, can be damaging to synthetic hair. Direct heat on synthetic fiber that's not heat-friendly could singe or melt the hair. It's better to use a leave-in conditioner and reshape the curls with your fingers and let them dry.
Bonus Tip: Over time your curl pattern may loosen or the underside of the hair at the nape needs to be refurbished. I recommend using a steamer, which will allow you to remove any frizz. Next, you can curl the hair, steam and once cooled the curl will be locked in. This is a more advanced tip but can do magic on your wig.
